Mapping with Google Tools

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Geographic and mapping tools have uses right across the curriculum, but they can also be valuable for learning important data management skills. In this session we will investigate two of Google's geo tools; Maps Engine Lite, and Google Earth. Using Google's relatively new Maps Engine Lite, we will learn how to find or create data sets and import them onto the map, then use filters to look at that geo data in different ways. We will create a couple of user-generated map using various datasets. We'll then dive into Google Earth and discover its many features for exploring the world, looking at the various overlay layers available, how to add custom pins and areas, add balloon information using HTML, creating flyover tours, etc. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to confidently use Google's mapping products to design rich learning activities for students.
