Mapping with Google Tools
Geographic and mapping tools have uses right across the curriculum, but they can also be valuable for learning important data management skills. In this session we will investigate two of Google's geo tools; Maps Engine Lite, and Google Earth. Using Google's relatively new Maps Engine Lite, we will learn how to find or create data sets and import them onto the map, then use filters to look at that geo data in different ways. We will create a couple of user-generated map using various datasets. We'll then dive into Google Earth and discover its many features for exploring the world, looking at the various overlay layers available, how to add custom pins and areas, add balloon information using HTML, creating flyover tours, etc. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to confidently use Google's mapping products to design rich learning activities for students.

Whilst online quizzes and surveys are handy, Google Forms can also be used to create powerful, self-grading assessment tools for learning. Learn how these are designed and used to inform teaching and give timely feedback to students.

Best of all, the service is free and in the cloud!

This workshop will:
* Demonstrate a step-by-step process to create a form for collecting data.
* Demonstrate how Google Forms are being used to create formative assessments in Mathematics to drive differentiated teaching for Year 5/6 students.
* Examine "Flubaroo", an add-on script which will correct forms automatically.
* Discover and share other possibilities in using Google Forms in the classroom.

This workshop is designed for beginning and intermediate users of Google Forms.

This is a "hands on" session, so bring devices suitable for viewing and creating Google Forms. Attendees should have a Google account with Google Drive enabled.

The session will connect to a live telescope in New Mexico and participate in the OSIRIS-REx Target Asteroids mission gathering asteroid data to support an important sample return science mission to the most dangerous earth approaching asteroid Bennu (101955) 1999 RQ36.

Education Outcome: Participants will participate in a live Science Mission, consult other experts through a Google Plus Hangout, and understand how to bring real science into the classroom at that important Middle School level when students are exploring their interests.
